The Duathlon

At school I did the Duathlon and I had to do a 500m run a 3km bike ride and a 1km run. I came 14th. After I did my race I won two spot prizes. They were, a half price helmet from rocket bikes and a blow up ASB stick. I bought a sausage, a jucie and a sticky bun to help Christchurch. I had such a great time at the Duathlon.

After the Duathlon I went home with my Nana but I got to bike ahead of my brother and Nana. I got home a lot faster than them. I got an ice block from the Welcome Bay dairy and then sat down and relaxed because it was very tiring, but extremely fun.

My Artwork
In class we have been doing art attack. In my class we have created a great art garden. At the moment in our garden we have lots of swan plant with a couple of cristalis and lots of caterpillars and I hope we get some butterflies soon. We have also made eight mosaic stepping stones to add to our garden. Our theme for our garden is kiwiana so for our stepping stones we have jandals, the nz flag, tuatara, potakawa, pukeko, fern, koru and kiwi. They are all looking really good. Our next project will be making pumice sculptures for our garden and then we will think about other things we want to add to it.

A couple of weeks ago we created a class mural using Keith Haring as inspiration. We used five colours which were red, green, purple ,orange and yellow. They have people with no facial features and no particular shape. I learnt that Keath Haring is very sick and that he started drawing when he was about nine and started making comics for the newspaper. Our mural is very colourful and it brightens up the class.
I will add a picture as soon as I get one.

Some other art that we have done is my word texturizer. It is lots of words over a photo of me. The words on the top are a poem called I am. Here is a photo of my texterizer.

Choices inqiry!
In class we have been doing a choices inquiry about what we have learnt this term about choices. I have done Keith haring and I have created a smallish keith man to present my learning. What I did was scrunched up lots of newspaper to make a head, arms, legs and body. Then I had to use HEAPS of sellatape to stick it all together. After that I painted the entire thing white which was very tricky because all of the sellatape had heaps of holes and bumps and then I painted it red and stuck on two scrolls of information on its arms and painted my name (Emily) onto one of the legs and waited for it to dry. After that I created the radiant baby the same way I did for my big red man.
PICS COMING SOON!

Pinatas!
In class we have been making pinata's. You have to cellotape the boxes together and then stick newspaper onto it and paint when the boxes are dry. Afterthat you must decorate the pinata with what you would like! When you have finished decorating the boxes you can cut a hole in the boxes and pour many many lollies into the hole. Some people added so many lollies that it was almost as heavy as a elephant. After you hae put the lollies inside, (Make sure to give me some!) you must cellotape the hole up tightly so that the lollies do not just fall out. When you have done that tie your pinata to a close tree and start whacking!P.S Invite some of your freinds round for a pinata smashing party!

Book reviews!
Emily is going to tell you about a book I like called...
Clarice Bean, utterly me!
Author Lauren Child

When I first looked at this book I just wanted to pick it up and read it because of its intriging front cover which says clarice bean utterly me and then has a big picture of Clarice Bean. This book is about a girl called Clarice Bean Tuesday and by reading this book you can tell that she looks at things very diiferently to some people. I can tell that because she has many questions about things that some people have not even thought about for even one second. One of the questions were "Why isn't 'why' spelt 'Y'?" When you open the book it says "This is me Clarice Bean. I am not an only child but sometimes I wish I was. My family is six people which is sometimes to many. Not always, just sometimes." When I read this it made me want to read on because it made me think of two questions that I wanted to find the answer to, and the questions were ' Why does Clarice Bean want to be an only child? ' and 'Why is six people sometimes to many?'

The Sunday times in England said "An utterly fantastic book!" Which I strongly agree on.
I recommend this book 7+.

Change inquiry!

This term we have been working on change inquiry's. My Topic was Picasso. For my inquiry I built a wooden easel at home and nailed the pieces together and also made a A4 booklet. On the front of my booklet I had drawn a portrait of Picasso and had printed out some of Picasso's paintings and stuck them behind the portrait of Picasso. My two questions I had were...

Stay tuned for my report's on Picasso!

Free writing is a new subject in our class. We have 20 minutes to write anything we want to. We can either carry on something that we have already started or start something new. Some types of writing we can do are:

Fiction writing
Fractured fairy tale
Personal story
Foretelling
Rhyme
Report
Poems
Adventure story
Recount
Rap
Song
And much much more!

Speeches

In class we have been writing speeches. They could be about anything we like from snot to animal cruelty or even tips on how to get out of cleaning the toilet. My speech is about food. To write our speech we first had to write down what we knew about how to write a speech, what we want to know about writing a speech, how Mrs Watson can help us to write our speech and then what we will use to write our speech. Then we had to choose our topic, find a funny or sad story for our speech, find facts for our speech, write a gripping starter for our speech, have a exciting end for our speech and have rhetorical questions. Once we had finished that we had to write our speech and then edit it. When we had it checked off we could write it onto cue cards.
Here is my finished speech about food:

From chocolate to spinach. Snacks to meals. Delicious to just plain disgusting. We've all had it. I'm talking about food.

Do you eat baked beans? If you do, this will completely outrage you! Baked beans aren't all beans. They contain small amounts of pork. And why do they even say they're baked because they are very rarely baked. They are almost always stewed. So there you have it ladies and gentleman. Baked beans are fake.

Everyone here has heard of chocolate. We all love it! We all want it! The one thing holding us back...
HEALTH!!!
Even just hearing the word makes me shiver. Its all healths fault we can't have chocolate for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. But now we can forget about health. You can have chocolate for all the meals of the day. Now that theres chocolate mushrooms. Theirs only one down side. Chocolate. Mushrooms. Not the best combination. But it sold out within 48 hours so it must taste really good, or maybe just intersresting...
